Dudley’s Bookshop Cafe Limited Operations Announcement

(updated 5/14/20)

Hi All, thanks for sticking with us through all of this craziness. We just wanted to let you know while many businesses will be reopening tomorrow (5/15), Dudley’s will not be one of them. We will continue to operate as we have, doing curbside pickup and free local deliveries 10-1:30 daily.

I’ve decided that, in the interest of the safety of my staff and all of the customers we appreciate so much, it’s just not worth the risks for a few extra dollars. We’re making preparations to ensure coming back to Dudley’s will be as safe as we can make it. At this point none of those measures truly feel safe enough for everyoneSo when *might* we open? Probably a few weeks at the earliest. I’d rather see how reopening plays out in other states as well as locally here in Central Oregon before making any decisions. If it’s later in June, July, or whenever- that’s fine too.

What will it look like when we do? It won’t be the same, that’s for sure…

•Limits of ~6 people downstairs, same upstairs if it’s open
•No scheduled groups due to those limits
•Masks required
•No Wifi
•Cafe drinks only to go
•No bathrooms
•Reduced hours, possibly 10-3

I wish I had better news but, with the new rules in place, that’s what we’re likely looking at for the foreseeable future. In the meantime, keep calling and emailing us those special orders, keep ordering online via our Bookshop portal, and we’ll keep you posted about what we’re thinking and when we’ll have you all back in the shop again.

The best way to reach us is at dudleysbookshopcafe@gmail.com or via Messenger on our Facebook page. You can also find us on Instagram: @dudleysbend or call us from 10am-1:30pm Mon-Sat at 541-749-2010.

Dudley’s features a curated and in-depth selection of new and used literary fictionall the best guidebooks, western history, science-fiction and fantasy. We have an ever-changing staff picks section along with a cross-genre selection of new and notable hardbacks that are 10% off each and every day. No other bookstore in Bend, Oregon can say that. If you still haven’t found something to your liking we have an entire second floor full of used books across all subjects. Read more about our book selection here. No time to come in? No problem. Shop online!

Leave the coffee snobbery outside. At Dudley’s there’s no complicated brewing equipment or six different roasts to choose from. What we do have is a time-honored La Marzocco Linea pulling shots for all the classic espresso drinks, served by friendly, engaging baristas. We serve a chocolate-note, medium-dark roast Guatemalan, roasted locally by Bonsai Beans. Not in the mood for coffee? We serve teas from Metolius Tea and Jasmine Pearl. In addition to drinks we serve a variety of locally baked pastries and snacks to complement that perfect espresso drink.

Meeting Space

Dudley’s has become the Downtown spot for meetings, both formal and informal. Cozy and comfortable enough for a one-on-one or study session on the couch or take advantage of our large upstairs room for your business meeting or planning session. We have everything from language groups and philosophy clubs to book clubs and writer’s groups who use our space. For something a bit more private we also have a small “nook” upstairs suitable for 4-5 people. If you would like to reserve space for your meeting (and we suggest you do), please click here for more information.
